With the anticipation of the 2024 National Women's Soccer League heating up, Orlando Pride and sporting goods giant Nike have unveiled the team's fresh home and away kits. Known affectionately as 'The Phoenix Kit' and 'The Citrus Kit', this launch marks a significant moment in women's soccer. Nike, serving as the exclusive kit provider for all 14 NWSL teams, steps into 2024 with a groundbreaking league-wide kit overhaul. Representing the sun-kissed state of Florida, Orlando Pride debuts two striking new kits.
The Citrus Kit is a bold new jersey that honors Florida's esteemed citrus legacy, while The Phoenix Kit embraces the team's customary purple and blue color palette. This unveiling represents an unprecedented uniform reset across a women's professional football league, with Nike refreshing the primary and secondary uniforms of every NWSL team. The careful design process reflects each team's unique persona, amplifies their expressive joy, and resonates with the dynamism sport brings to teams and their followers.
“We are proud to share two new, powerful kits with our fans and honored that we are again able to share the story of one of the pillars of our community and the state of Florida. Each year it is important for us to use our platform to celebrate those that laid the foundation for our city, and this year is no different. We hope our fans are as excited to wear The Citrus Kit and The Phoenix Kit as we are, and to proudly represent Orlando both at home and outside of Central Florida,” said Orlando Pride CMO Pedro Araujo.
“This new partnership with Nike is a very exciting moment for the league. We’re grateful for their continued support of the Orlando Pride and the NWSL as a whole and are excited for the future opportunities this new, refreshed commitment will bring to our kits and team performance gear.” says Pedro Araujo, the Chief Marketing Officer of the Orlando Pride.
The Citrus Kit, especially dazzling, brings a striking Florida orange to the jersey repertoire, inspired directly by Central Florida's citrus industry. An audacious color scheme, never seen previously on the team, has been introduced. From the lush groves encircling The City Beautiful to the nostalgic citrus box packaging, the design establishes a close tie with the history rooted in the club's community. The classic orange grove-inspired colorways feature mesmerizing hues of oranges and frosty greens; these shades extend to the player names and numbers too. The Citrus Kit is adorned with bespoke embellishments hailing from the historic packaging commonly found on citrus crates, their labels distinct to each grove. A hand-drawn, elegant script reading 'Pride' decorates the socks' back, its design being a homage to the hand-painted lettering characteristic of these labels. Simultaneously, the unique 'Outer Pride', found at the jersey's lower corner, represents a stylized 'OP'. This includes a cross-section of an orange and orange-blossom leaves, dead set on asserting a sense of place and identity.
The Phoenix Kit strikes a contemporarily conventional chord, upholding the Pride’s primary color palette to the fullest. It artfully incorporates a dual-toned purple gradient that progressively transverses the jersey, diagonally from the crest to the hem. The kit is tastefully punctuated with the Orlando Pride's emblematic “Eola Blue,” showcased on the Nike emblem and in the typing of each player's name and number.
