Keeping the spirit of Chinese New Year celebrations alive in sporting arenas, sports apparel giant PUMA has presented to the world a special Manchester City "Year of the Dragon" attire and collection piece set to be sported by both the men and women's teams in an upcoming match. Directing its recognition to the ever-growing Manchester City enthusiasts streaming in from the East, this once more stands as PUMA's unique nod of honour.
Crafting a special kit packed with layers of meaning to celebrate the Chinese New Year, a tradition they upheld last season as well, this time, it's the Year of the Dragon demanding the main stage. Centre of the collection is a hand-doodled illustration of the conventional Wood Dragon, forming the foundation graphic for the kit's design. The creation further pulls inspiration from the story outlining the Home Kit, with ties echoing the turret-like structures of the Etihad Stadium.
The jersey creatively braids the resilience of the Wood Dragon with the architectural marvel that is the Etihad's distinct turrets, masterfully etched in a wood-carving-inspired illustration.
It'll be Manchester City Women's team shedding first light on the new collection. They'll be donning this novel attire for the Continental Cup showdown against Manchester United scheduled for Wednesday, 24 January 2024. This collection reprises the jacket to go with the set, along with spanking new kit, tracksuit bottoms, and t-shirts, each piece blending the deep-rooted legacy of the club with traces of Chinese culture. All of this honouring Chinese New Year, which this year lands on...This year heralds a fiery celebration with the arrival of the Year of the Dragon. Every single item within this collection dons the iconic image of the dragon, standing for both power and dynamism. Traits that have branded the mythic creature as well as the football club.
“Manchester City has a large and growing global community of fans who love to show their passion for the club by wearing our products. Following the success of our recent kits, we are excited to launch another bespoke collection kit that blends innovation and tradition. We hope our fans across the world enjoy the Year of the Dragon shirt and the accompanying apparel range,” articulates Serena Gosling, the head of Retail & Licensing at Manchester City.
Marco Mueller, PUMA's Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, shares. ""In designing this collection, we've paid homage to the iconic symbols of strength and endurance that resonate with Manchester City fans — the dragon and the famous Etihad turrets.
