Wings: How a Football Club and a Basketball Icon Made a Thing

Right, so, Paris Saint-Germain and Jordan, they've done it again. Another drop. Another collision of football and fashion, this time titled, "WINGS." It's a lot to unpack, innit?

First off, you've got the new fourth kit, a football jersey that's come in with some swagger and a bit of a backstory. Word is, it's the first football jersey ever conceptualized as a long-sleeve situation first, not the other way around. I'm here for that kind of rebellion, a bit of "let's do this backwards, just because we can."

See the way the wing motifs play off Jordan’s logo? Yeah, that’s where that ‘WINGS’ thing comes in. It's symbolic, they say, a meeting of two big names, two big ideas. One global team. One icon. You know, like when you see your people, and you do that little head nod, like "I see you, I recognize you."

This collection, they’re calling it ‘groundbreaking,’ ‘luxury,’ and ‘performance.’ Ok, sure, they would. But from what I've been digging, they’re onto something about wanting to blend the two. And isn't that kind of where we're at? The way we play, the way we move, the clothes we wear, is it all different categories, or is it one beautiful thing?

And there’s more. They’ve got a whole training line, too, warm-up kits in PSG’s blue, white, and red. All the classics. But then it gets a bit deep, because there's something about this stuff being made in Italy, by hand. And the whole thing perfected over in France, by "master artisans," which sounds like something out of a novel, not so much a football drop.

I mean, a sweater inspired by a football net? You know, like the nets people are actually putting the ball in, not just the pretty nets used to capture fish. Like a metaphor. Then you have hoodies, t-shirts and all that. There's a leather luggage set, for the person, I guess, that's getting off the private plane, or catching a bus, I don’t know. There’s also something about turning the Air Jordan 1 into an art piece. And then a hyper-limited edition version, 23 of them to be precise, and just so everyone knows, none of them are for me. I saw the prices.

Now, you might be thinking, what's the point? And that's fair. I have to ask myself that too, every now and then, what's the point in all the things we do? But maybe there's something in these collaborations and the stories they tell. A conversation about heritage, about making, about pushing boundaries and seeing what you get. Sometimes it's a miss. Sometimes it's a moment.

All of this hits stores and online, January 22nd of 2025, just so you know.

But, before you go out, spending your hard-earned money, think, why are you buying this stuff? For the hype? Because you genuinely love it? Because someone is telling you to? And if you're gonna get it, make sure you're getting it for you.

Just a thought.
